Tip of the Month-July

Overall, summer is a time to lighten up your decor. You can accomplish this by switching to lighter and brighter fabrics, accessories and general color scheme. If you already decorate in lighter colors, transitioning is no big deal. If you use deep and rich decor colors, it's a little more of a challenge. For this situation, you could use lighter shades of your existing colors instead of trying to blend such a strong contrast.

Paint can change the feel of the room in a hurry. You can paint an entire room, but you don't have to do so. All it takes is one accent wall to create an entirely different ambiance.

Heavy fabrics and window treatments can be rotated with lighter fare for the warmer months. Change out some of your accessory pieces, such as pillows and candles for lighter colors. Shades of white and or bright colors will take you to a summertime feel in a hurry.

Take your house plants outside and replace them with cheerful silk arrangements. This is also an opportunity to get the old logs out of the fireplace and replace them with a summer appropriate accessory.

A lot of things can add up to a nice new look for summer. You don't wear the same clothes in the summer as you do in the winter, so why should your home look the same? < back
